Children from age 5 year can generally join our main TAGB Taekwondo syllabus as long as they have the required level of maturity and body awarness, parents are also welcome to join in with these classes. Children also graduate into this class from our Ninja Skillz program at age 5 or 6.
The exercises are designed to help children’s bodies grow and become stronger.
Exercise and activity is essential for children to have healthy lifestyles. A
lack of exercise can lead to a number of conditions, including obesity,
hypertension (high blood pressure), cardiovascular disease, and diabetes. Keeping
your child active will help them to maintain their physical health and can also
help them to cope with stress – especially important in today’s busy world!
We aim to make exercise fun, to keep them active and fit whilst learning practical self-defense and becoming healthier at the same time, but the benefits of Tae Kwon Do are not just physical!
Tae Kwon Do for Children emphasises our Tenants:
Children are taught these and explained the meanings and the importance of considering them in all they do. They are behavioral goals which aid Taekwondo instructors and parents in solidifying core values that help young people be and do their best. There is a great emphasis on politeness and respect for elders which is often lost in society today.
Training focuses on working towards goals and not giving up until their goals are achieved, no matter how difficult the child may find it to begin with. Success is rewarded with much praise and usually the next colour belt as the child progresses through up the system towards their black belt. This will really boost your child’s confidence and self-esteem, benefits which spill over into other areas of their lives.
The training is non-violent, focusing on both physical and emotional control and development allowing the children to develop a good sense of balance and self-control. Competition and grading is optional and the main focus of our teaching is that the child enjoys themselves and improves their skills and confidence at their own pace. We emphasis fun and good sportsmanship, not “winning”.
You should see your child’s training have a positive effect on his attitude and demeanor. We combine all of this with games, designed to help the child build their Taekwondo skills,
meaning not only will they be healthy in body and stronger in mind; they will have a great time doing it too!
